Julian Fellowes’ period drama starring Carrie Coon will return for its third season. The money-versus-old-money battles and dramatic mayhem will all return in full force.
Dylan Baker of The Good Wife, Broadway star Kate Baldwin and Michael Cumpsty from Severance as well as John Ellison Conlee from Boardwalk Empire and Bobby Steggert from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel are joining Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Louisa Jacobson for Season 12 of their respective shows.
The cast
Though season two of The Gilded Age ended on December 17, HBO has already renewed it for a third season, just days after its finale hit series high ratings. Furthermore, they also revealed six new supporting cast members including Broadway stars Kate Baldwin, Michael Cumptsy, John Ellison Conlee Bobby Steggert and Hannah Shealy who will join in this third season of this period drama.
Baldwin is making her Broadway debut after performing in Ragtime and Hello Dolly! and portrays Bertha Russell of New Money socialite Bertha Russell alongside Bill Camp, Leslie Uggams, LisaGay Hamilton and Paul Alexander Nolan in this movie.
Uncertain is the plot for The Gilded Age season 3, but the show has plenty of momentum behind it. If its performance improves further, another season could be added and allow time for growth and maturation while reaching more viewers.
As always, I anticipate an incredible season full of love stories and drama, exquisite mansions, Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell being brutally sassy…it should make for an entertaining season and I hope that you all enjoy it! Don’t forget to tune back in for The Gilded Age’s return in 2025!
The plot
The Gilded Age is back on production, and cast and crew appear happier than ever. Written by Julian Fellowes (creator of Downton Abbey), this period drama explores old money-new money conflicts in 1880s New York City – it’s a must-watch for period drama fans!
Season 3 will focus on the women’s suffrage movement – a key historical event of its time – which promises to add another layer of tension as rich and poor families continue to mingle together in one city.
Carrie Coon will return this season as Bertha Russell and recently revealed to Collider that Julian Fellowes initially opposed Larry and Marian kissing at the end of Season 2, but eventually gave in after being persuaded.
With returning stars joined by new additions like Dylan Baker from The Good Wife and Broadway star Kate Baldwin as regular characters; Michael Cumpsty from Severance; John Ellison Conlee from Boardwalk Empire; Bobby Steggert from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel as regulars; as well as Merritt Wever as Monica O’ Brien (Bertha’s estranged sister). We can’t wait to see what unfolds!
